Hi, I'm nbeerbower. I was having trouble with my.NET 4.0 and it resulted in a 2908 error when installing XNA which is needed for Terraria. The problem is because for some reason.NET 4 does not update mscoree.dll from.NET 2.Here's a 'kit' to help you fix it.1. Open Take Ownership.reg and add the registry keys. This allows you to easily replace mscoree.dll2.
Go to Windows/system32 (if you have a 64x OS also do the SAME procedure in the folder Windows/SysWOW64)3. Find mscoree.dll and right click and Take Ownership(you can alsocheck properties and see version, if it's 2.00 then this fix will work!)4. Replace with the included mscoree.dll5. Repeat in SysWOW64 if you have a 64 bit OSHave fun! Make sure you restart your computer afterwards! This solved the problem for users, but I'm having trouble. Obviously the Megaupload link doesn't work anymore, and the other link, also has broken links; this one specifically:2. Rename mscoree.dll.
Xna Redistributable 3.0
This is a real pain. Go here for instructions (not for the fainthearted): may also be connected to problems I was having with installing the.NET Framework v4.0:Any help with either problem is appreciated. It seems other users have solved the problem, so there's probably a solution hidden in one of the threads I missed. Hey there comrades. Right off the bat, I'd like to apologize for bumping this thread if the OP has already discovered a satisfactory solution to their particular issue - as well as apologize for resurrecting a closed discussion if it's already been resolved.I have come across this exact problem as well, trying to run a particular game which required the.net framework version 4; a game I had literally been playing earlier that same day. I'm running 32-bit Windows 7, so the specifics of my solution may or may notbe applicable to your situation. What I did to correct my problem was simply to repair my installations of.Net Framework Extended and.Net Framework 4 Client Profile.
Microsoft Xna Framework Redistributable 2.0
After that, I restarted my computer, uninstalled my XNA Framework and reinstalled it. Afterdoing so the game starts up and runs without issue. Not sure if my problem was an exception or if this will assist anyone else's situation, but I thought I'd post my experience just in case it would be of any help.

Good luck out there.
