I always thought they splintered the AOS factions into far too many sub factions.In Order alone there's 22 factions, and 12 of them have 10 or less units.

Shadowblades is a faction with a single unit. Some of them don't even have battleline or heroes so can't form a legal army.They're just allies. But current rules (for matched play at least) make taking allies difficult.The high elf units are scattered around 5 sub factions and it seems like basic spearmen don't even exist on the webstore anymore, I think they exist as Spireguard in the rules?Where as stuff like Seraphon and Stormcasts and Sylvaneth are all one faction despite some of them being easy to split out if you really wanted to. I was super excited thinking they'd announce rolling Everchosen and Slaves to Darkness together into a single faction, such a shame.Sure Archaon wants to be leading a more elite army - but they're already advocating for using allies of slaves to darkness to fill out the army roster, why the hell not just make them a single army and get it over with? Let me bring Archaon, a unit of 3 varanguard, and some chaos warrior units aspiring to be varanguard.I picked up the big archaon model to paint up and get started in AoS properly, converting over my 8th ed warriors of chaos army, since, you know, he used to be their faction leader.

Silly me, not anymore lolAll I want is to be able to take Archaon at the head of a slaves to darkness army without breaking allegiance. Is that so much to ask?.

Its also an issue with how Warriors of Chaos worked in WHFB - I have 2 units of tzeentch warriors, 3 nurgle chariots, 2 units of khorne cavalry, and a mix of characters from all 4 dark gods. But in the keyword system in AoS, they don't make a stand alone army - I'd have to take the CHAOS allegiance instead of TZEENTCH or KHORNE or EVERCHOSEN or what have you.Maybe I just need to repaint the damn army all Tzeentch or something to make it work. But even then I don't think it qualifies as a Tzeentch allegiance under the Disciples of Tzeentch rules does it? Since its all just slaves to darkness and everchosen models, who happen to have the tzeentch keyword?AoS army building confounds me for some reason, despite having played warhammer and 40k for 20 years and knowing the 40k system like the back of my hand.
